Their prison was dark and cold and beyond filthy. Exactly what Kaleb expected from the likes of mortals. But the barbarism on display was something he wasn’t prepared for. He had been told stories of savages murdering without remorse. Until today he had been fortunate not to have to witness it. Not he was tied up in a disgusting pit with a dead body inches away from him, its blood creeping towards his shoes as he shuffled away. He was panting frantically as he watched the two mortals keeping guard across the room. The others left soon after the High-King was taken away, leaving the mages tied up. He didn’t want people to see it but he was frightened. He never thought he would be a hostage before, despite all the warnings his parents gave him. “As a representative of the House of Ferndale, you must be careful” they told him. “There will be those whose jealousy and envy will make them commit heinous acts to get what we have. But no matter what, remember who you are.” so he held his head up, swallowing back the whimpers and fixing his glare on the mortals. He will not show fear.
